 Life in 1980, there was no internet, the most entertaining things to do was to listen to audio tapes, watch TV, if you were lucky to watch a movie from a VHS tape, then go outdoor fishing, walking, hiking, exploring places.

And driving, that was the life back then.

A month salary would get you a decent rent, good food, and you could use some of the money for travelling abroad, all communication were either wired phone, or snail mail.

Ordering online was not a thing obviously, some project needed solid research, and you would be heading to the local library, or asking a teacher, schools were very strict.

The greatest movies were made, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, ...

It was the cold war, the Ruskies were the bad guys, and in 2022 they still are...

What you needed to succeed was to be a good student, having a good cultural knowledge. Then having a good understanding of business. Have math skills. 

If you had an idea, wrote a book, if you had a tune in your head, you would play for a couple of friends, if you wanted to write poetry, you would just fill a notebook, but there was no way to reach any large audience, unless you had some kind of a contact out there to introduce you to the right person.

The information were diffused by 2 or 3 channels, there were little interaction between people abroad, except for specific travelers, business person, ...

Life was simpler, 10 years before that people were having large epiphanies back in the 1970 ; I will write something about that period another time.

It was also the first time, people were informed about the dependency on Oil, and how the Oil would eventually lack in the future.
