It feels like the French ISP free.fr has closed the mail aliases service - since Nov. 5th 2020

All pop3 free.fr mail aliases imported in gmail are now in error with this message

The new mail service is https://webmail.free.fr/ and is based on the Zimbra

(the old interface was through imp.free.fr)
